More chikungunya fever in Philippines in new outbreaks

New chikungunya outbreaks have occurred in Negros Occidental (56 cases, mostly in Kabankalan City and Cadiz City) and in the Bicol Region (300 cases, mostly in Sta. Elena and Camarines Norte). Travellers to areas where chikungunya fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with chikungunya fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
