More deaths due to dengue in Malaysia

Five new deaths due to dengue (3 in Sabah and 2 in Selangor) bring the total number of reported deaths this year to 79. There were 1,677 reported cases of dengue fever last week. Overall, there have been 37,698 reported cases nationwide. Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
