More demonstrations

Several people were killed and more wounded as security forces opened fire on demonstrators in Cairo who were protesting continued military rule. Other protests erupted in Alexandria and other cities.

The crisis began when riot police violently cleared a small encampment in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Saturday. The continued hard line by security forces has increased the resolve of the demonstrators to remove the military from power and complete a revolution that began in January.

Travellers to Cairo and other Egyptian cities should be aware that the country is in transition towards the election of a new government. Travellers should exercise caution and avoid all political and public demonstrations since they may become violent quickly.
