More protests in Togo

A coalition of 14 opposition parties in Togo has called for more nationwide anti-government demonstrations from November 14 to 18. Organizers want to pressure the president’s regime to reinstate the 1992 constitution that provided for term limits for the presidency. Protests may occur across the country, including the cities of Lomé, Ebe, Tsévié, Sokode, Anie, Atakpame, Bafilo, Dapaong, Kara, Mango, Noepe, and Vogan.

Advice

Protests in August turned violent, and at least 16 people were killed. Police have been accused of using excessive force to disperse crowds. Traffic could be disrupted. The government may disrupt communications, such as cellular services and internet. Minimize your safety risk by avoiding any areas of large public or political gatherings or demonstrations.
