With 2 more cases of hantavirus in Los Santos Province, the total for the year is now 45 cases. Most of cases have been reported from the Tonosi district.

Dust, food, and hands that are contaminated with the dried urine and excreta of infected rodents are the main source of hantaviruses. Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to hantavirus infection by wearing gloves and a mask when working in rodent infested areas, if possible.
