More than 11,000 Dengue fever cases reported in city of São Paulo

So far this year, there have been 11,392 reported cases of dengue fever in the city of São Paulo. About half of all cases were reported during a four week period from mid-March to mid-April. The peak of the season for transmission may have passed,. However, some degree of transmission will continue.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
