More violence in southern Thailand

At least 2 people have been killed and 36 others injured when a car bomb exploded outside the Hotel Holiday in Betong district in Yala province in southern Thailand. Travellers should be aware that more than 6,000 people have been killed since 2004 in near-daily bombings and shootings in the region near Thailand's southern border with Malaysia. Victims often include both Buddhists and Muslims.

Several countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel in the provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla due to frequent terrorist attacks and lack of personal security.
