Mosquito borne infections are high risk in Venezuela

There is a relatively high risk for exposure to the mosquitoes that carry dengue, malaria and chikungunya in Venezuela. So far this year there have been 71,007 people with dengue fever, another 71,620 with malaria and 9,831 cases of chikungunya fever. Often people with dengue and chikungunya do not seek medical care and are not reported. There may be many more cases of these infections in the community.

Since all three infections are transmitted by mosquitoes, travellers should make every effort to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.
