Most dengue fever in Argentina since 2009

So far this year, more than 18,000 people infected with dengue fever have been registered in 15 jurisdictions of the country. In 2009, which was a record year, there were only half as many cases reported. The most affected provinces include Buenos Aires, Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Corrientes, Chaco, Formosa, Misiones, Salta and Santa Fe.

Advice For Travellers

The absence of reports does not mean that there is no dengue fever transmission in other provinces. The risk of exposure will vary from place to place and may be high in many localities.

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
