Most milk in India contaminated with bleach, fertilizer, food safety regulator finds

India's Food Safety and Standards Authority has issued a warning after testing milk and finding that 68 % (percent) of milk samples from cows and buffalo were contaminated with additives such as fertilizer, bleach and detergent. Additives included hydrogen peroxide and urea (used to make fertilizer). Samples were also diluted with water that may have been contaminated with various bacteria including cholera.

Travellers in India should exercise caution when consuming milk and milk products. Avoiding these products will reduce the risk of food poisoning.
