Mount Kinabalu climbing trail reopened on September 1

Following a nearly three-month closure due to an earthquake in June, Mount Kinabalu partially reopened on September 1, 2015.

Advice

Timpohon Trail is open to climbers starting September 1 until November 30. Climbers are only permitted to climb to Laban Rata. Only 100 climb permits will be issued daily by Sabah Parks, as opposed to 193 previously.

The new Mount Kinabalu Summit trail (from Laban Rata to Low’s Peak Summit) is expected to be ready by December 1. Due to earthquake damage and inaccessible paths, the Mesilau Trail is closed indefinitely. At this time, all climbs will be using the Timpohon Trail exclusively.

Since climbing permits are limited, travellers should make bookings as soon as possible.
