Mount Ontake erupts injuring at least 40 people

Mount Ontake, about 130 miles west of Tokyo, erupted today injuring at least 40 people. Local authorities have warned travellers to avoid the area. Some domestic flights may be delayed.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has advised that another large eruption could occur in the next week or so. Small ongoing eruptions are continuing, and the agency has advised the public to stay away from the area.
