Multiple bomb attacks in southern Thailand

Multiple coordinated bomb attacks in Thailand's south were detonated by suspected Muslim separatists. Many of the bombs were fake, but 12 real ones were detonated and two people were killed. The “bomb-like” devices were found in at least 60 locations in Narathiwat and Pattani Provinces. Travellers should exercise caution in southern Thailand where a group of ethnic Malays seeking independence have resurfaced. Approximately 5,206 people have been killed and 9,137 wounded in the violence. Travellers should avoid major public gathering places (markets, bars, outdoor restaurants, etc.) that might be targets for separatist groups.
