Multiple dengue fever outbreaks in Brazil

This alert updates the status of many dengue fever outbreaks across Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro State

Since the beginning of 2011 until mid-April, health authorities have registered a total of 56,882 suspected dengue cases, and 39 dengue deaths were confirmed. Currently, 18 municipalities across the State have reported dengue epidemics.

Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo State

So far in 2011, health authorities have registered 8,726 dengue cases. In the past week, 470 new cases were reported. Only 1 death has been notified.

Sorocaba, São Paulo State

The total number of reported cases has reached 738, or a little over 1% of the city’s population.

Campinas, São Paulo State

Health authorities have confirmed a total of 867 dengue cases this year. New cases appear daily.

Mogi Mirim, São Paulo State

In one week, reported cases of dengue increased from 84 to 151. There are an additional 594 laboratory samples awaiting confirmation.

Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul State

The identification of 5 cases of dengue in Porto Alegre has placed local health jurisdictions on alert. The probability of additional cases is increased.

Cassilandia, Mato Grosso do Sul State

Health authorities have confirmed 11 dengue cases. With an additional 250 suspected cases, the area has reached the epidemic threshold.
