Nationwide major strike planned for Bangladesh on May 2 (warning)

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led 18-Party Opposition and some left parties are holding a countrywide dawn to dusk Hartal on Thursday May 2nd to protest the deaths in the Savar building collapse. In addition, the Islamist organisation Hefajat-e Islam has threatened to “Blockade” roads into Dhaka on Monday, May 5th. There may be major disruptions and violent demonstrations.

In the past, they have included the burning of buses and attacks on property, road blocks and confrontation with the police. Serious violent disorder has claimed scores of lives across Bangladesh since the end of February.
