New cases of cholera discovered in greater Accra area, Ghana

The Ghana Health Service has discovered 2 new cases of cholera in the Greater Accra Region during the first 3 months of 2013. Last year, there were 2,487 cases and 26 deaths due to the disease. Cholera is an on-going risk in this area. Travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
