New cases of plague appear in southern Madagascar

New cases of bubonic plague have been reported in the Atsimo-Atsinanana and Ihorombe regions where 27 deaths have occurred and 68 people have been infected.

Advice For Travellers

While the risk of exposure for the general traveller is very low, the risk can be higher for campers and hikers that may come in contact with wildlife that carry plague. Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to plague by taking all necessary measures to avoid flea bites in areas where plague commonly occurs.
