New cholera outbreaks in Mozambique

A 2nd cholera outbreak since the start of this year has been reported in northern Mozambique. There have been 544 cases of the disease registered in Nampula province, but with only 1 known death. Most of the cases occurred in Nampula city and in the town of Namialo. In the Lago district in the province of Nassa, 7 deaths among 126 people with cholera have been reported.

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
