Four unexpected cases of typhoid fever constitute an outbreak in Kasama and Mungwi districts. The disease does not usually occur in this area. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
