New polio cases continue to appear in Pakistan

Pakistan continues to struggle to contain the spread of polio. Health authorities have reported 3 new cases of the disease in Sindh Province bringing the total number of cases in this province to 17. Unprecedented rains have delayed the planned immunization program.

Travellers to Pakistan should be aware that this country has the highest number of polio cases in the world. While the risk of exposure to travellers may be low, all travellers should ensure that their childhood vaccinations, including polio, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
