New record level of dengue infections in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan

A total of 1,656 confirmed cases of dengue fever have already been diagnosed in three of the hospitals in the municipality. The total so far already exceeds all the reported cases last year. Four people have died. At least 9 patients have the more serious form of this infection, dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
