New typhoid outbreak in Harare and surrounding towns in Zimbabwe

A new outbreak of typhoid fever in Harare and Chitungwiza may be traced to a supermarket source. There have been at least 111 confirmed cases reported. Water shortages in Harare and its satellite towns of Chitungwiza, Norton, Ruwa and Epworth may also be contributing to spreading the infection.

Travellers to this city can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
