Clashes broke out between protesters and police in Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakir during street celebrations of the New Year. Reportedly, demonstrators set off fireworks and threw objects at police, and police responded with tear gas and water cannon.

Last week, armed clashes occurred in the town of Cizre in Sirnak Province between Kurdish militant groups.
