Nigeria is now polio free; confirmation pending

Nigeria, one of the three countries (Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan) that were actively reporting new cases of polio, has had no new polio cases for one full year. The country is waiting for confirmation by the World Health Organization to be declared polio free.

Advice For Travellers

Although active transmission of the polio virus appears to have stopped in Nigeria, travellers should still ensure that their childhood vaccinations, including polio, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
