Norovirus forces closure of hospital wards in Scotland, UK

With 14 wards in 8 hospitals closed due to norovirus contamination, hospitals in Scotland are having some difficulties finding enough beds to meet waiting-time targets. Based on estimates of the number of unreported norovirus infections for every reported one, the total number of cases in Scotland in 2012 could be as high as a million cases, or about one in five of the population. Travellers with pre-existing medical conditions or who develop severe norovirus infections may encounter some difficulties seeking care in some of the affected hospitals.
