Occasional dengue fever cases in Hanoi (Vietnam) may lead to outbreak later this year

So far, there have been 86 cases of dengue fever reported from different locations in the city of Hanoi, with 11 of those cases reported in the past week. Althought this number is less than for the same time period last year, health authorities are concerned that they may lead to an outbreak of this illness later this year. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
