Outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease declared in Sarawak, Malaysia

With over 3,600 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease reported in Sarawak, authorities have declared an outbreak of this infection. The most affected areas include Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

Small children less than ten years old are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing their hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
