Outbreak of hepatitis A confirmed in Bodocó, Pernambuco State, Brazil

An outbreak of hepatitis A involving 6 confirmed and 10 suspected cases has been reported in Bodocó. Contaminated water supplies are being blamed for the outbreak. Travellers should be aware that hepatitis A is preventablethrough vaccination. When there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus,travellers can reduce this risk by obtaining the vaccine prior to travellingand by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food andwater.
