Outbreak of severe form of malaria in Kozhikode District, Kerala, India

Malaria control measures have been intensified in Kozhikode District, Kerala, after 5 cases of the severe form of malaria called falciparum malaria were reported.


Although Kerala is generally considered to be a lower risk area for malaria, travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
