Over 5,000 malaria cases identified in Odisha, India

Through June 30, 2013, there have been 5,196 cases of malaria confirmed by laboratory testing. Five deaths have been recorded. The most affected areas include Gurundia, Kiora, Bonei and Balishankara. Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
