Paratrooper's Day to be celebrated in Russia on August 2, 2015

On Sunday, August 2, Russians will celebrate the 85th anniversary of Paratroopers’ Day in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and other cities throughout Russia.

Advice For Travellers

Many men who are ex-military celebrate by excessive drinking and aggressive behaviour. Most celebrations are peaceful, however, in the past, there have been some violent incidents, sometimes directed against foreigners, particularly those who are from the Caucasus region or Central Asia or members of the LGBT community.

Travellers may wish to consider avoiding parks, transportation stations and anywhere that paratroopers may gather, particularly if those travellers are foreigners from the regions mentioned above.
