Peak for dengue in Brazil may have passed but transmission occurs in many areas

Although the peak for transmission of the dengue fever virus in Brazil may have been reached, there are still many areas of the country where the number of reported cases is increasing. Overall, there have been 845,900 reported cases of dengue as of May 9.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
