Pertussis (whooping cough) cases increase in central Texas, USA

Health authorities have reported increasing numbers of cases of whooping cough in the following counties in central Texas: McLennan County (11 confirmed cases); Bell County (21 confirmed cases and more than 20 probable cases); and Hill County (1 confirmed case).

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of highly contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including pertussis, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
