Pertussis (whooping cough) described as major problem in Peru

So far in 2012, health authorities have reported a total of 681 cases and 3 deaths due to pertussis (whooping cough). This total is a significant increase compared to previous years. Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of highly contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including pertussis, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
