Whooping cough (pertussis) cases, deaths and/or outbreaks have been reported from the following localities in the USA:

San Miguel County, New Mexico; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Scott, Polk, Linn, Fayette, Benton, Delaware and Black Hawk Counties, Iowa; Whiteside County, Illinois; Portland, Oregon; and Lexington-Fayette County, Kentucky.

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of highly contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including pertussis, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
