Pertussis (whooping cough) - New York State reports large number of cases

New York State health officials reported 91 new cases of whooping cough in the past week, bringing the total for this year to 1,234. New York has the 4th largest number of cases in the USA.

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of highly contagious pertussis (whooping cough) can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including pertussis, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
