Advice

Pneumonic plague (pulmonary) is a highly contagious form of plague that is spreading through the coughing of the infected patient. Death occurs rapidly if not treated promptly. The risk for the average traveller who is not in contact with a patient who has pulmonary plague is very low, and travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to plague by taking all necessary measures to avoid contact with a sick person in an area where the pneumonic form is being transmitted.
