Polar vortex grips midwest to mid-Atlantic area of United States

A weather system described as a “polar vortex” is affecting the upper midwest to the mid-Atlantic areas of the United States. With the wind chill, temperatures could feel as low as -51C (-60F). The winter storm that began last night has already covered areas of the northeastern United States causing the cancellation of about 3,700 flights. Twenty-six states are under warnings or watches for severe wind chill. Some areas are without power.
