Police and right wing extremists clash in central Warsaw, Poland

Warsaw riot police beat right wing extremists with batons and threatened to use water cannons and rubber bullets to disperse them after the police were pelted with firecrackers and lumps of concrete. The violence occurred at the start of a parade to celebrate Poland's national holiday, which in the past has often been the site of clashes between rival extremist groups. Travellers should always use caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they might become violent without notice.
