Polio scare in Israel leads to large vaccination program

After finding a strain of polio in sewage waste in May in the southern Bedouin city of Rahat, the Health Ministry has decided to vaccinate 150,000 children in the southern Negev area. Although no human cases have been reported yet, travellers in any country where there might be a risk of transmission of the polio virus can reduce their risk of exposure by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including polio, are up-to-date prior to travelling.

Visit our Health Library for more information on exposure to and the prevention of Polio.
