Polio still not eradicated

Three countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria, continue to report nearly all the cases of polio detected worldwide so far this year. Afghanistan has reported 19 cases, Pakistan, 30 cases, and Nigeria, 73 cases. Due to on-going armed conflict in remote areas in these countries, vaccination programs are often suspended. Chad has reported a total of 5 cases. The disease has been eliminated in all other countries. Travellers in any country that reports cases of polio can reduce their risk of exposure to polio virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including polio, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
