Polio transmission in Cote d'Ivoire

Health authorities have confirmed 3 cases of polio in children. All three cases occurred in the Soubre district of the southwest Bas Sassandra Province. Planned vaccination campaigns were not implemented recently due to the armed conflict associated with post-election results. International authorities are concerned that the virus may spread within Ivory Coast and to other parts of West Africa.

Travellers to this region should be aware of the risk of exposure to polio and ensure that their childhood vaccinations are up-to-date.
