Political tension in Gambia increases

Although the current president of Gambia lost the December 1 presidential election, he has declared a state of emergency, just two days before he is supposed to cede power. The state of emergency bans “acts of disobedience” and “acts intended to disturb public order”. The President justified his action on the basis that “external foreign interference in the internal affairs of The Gambia and the unwarranted hostile atmosphere threatening the sovereignty, peace, security and stability of the country”.
