Political tensions continue in Burundi ahead of elections

In Burundi, parliamentary elections are due to be held on Monday, ahead of the presidential vote on July 15. Today about 200 protesting students broke into the US embassy compound in Bujumbura when police threatened to break up their camp. On Thursday, two grenade blasts injured at least eight people. A vice-president has left the country denouncing the president’s bid for a third term.
