Possible chikungunya at Iguaçu Falls, Brazil

A resident of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul became ill with chikungunya fever while visiting the Iguaçu Falls. Based on travel history, it would appear that this person possibly became infected while travelling in Venezuela. Although this infection was not acquired by local mosquitoes, it remains to be seen if local mosquitoes have become infected and will create local cases of this disease.

To minimize risk, travellers to this tourist destination may wish to considered following mosquito precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
