Possible cholera outbreak in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

There are reports suggesting that there is a growing outbreak of cholera in Addis Ababa. So far, 6 deaths have been officially confirmed in the capital. The number of cases is reported to be as high as more than 1,000 infected people. The 2 most affected districts include Kolfe and Addis Ketema.

Travellers can minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Strictly observe all food and water precautions in any area where there is cholera. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
