Possible new cholera outbreak in Harare, Zimbabwe

There are reports that at least 900 people in Harare have an illness that may be due to cholera. The outbreak is located in the neighbourhood of Mabvuku but similar cases of diarrhoea have also been reported in Chitungwiza, Highfield and other areas, where there is a lack of potable water.

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
