Possible protests in Haryana state in India beginning January 26, 2017

Members of the Jat community may resume protests beginning January 29 in 19 districts of
Haryana, excluding Panchkula, Mewat and Gurgaon. Section 144 has been imposed in Rohtak, which prevents the assembly of more than 4 people to within 500 meters of national and state highways and railway stations. About 7,000 home guards will be deployed to assist the Haryanan Police beginning January 26.

Advice For Travellers

If travelling through the state (including between Delhi and Chandigarh/Punjab), avoid any large gatherings or rallies. In 2016, protests by the Jat community caused closed roads and serious damage.
