Possible spread of cholera to Sudan from South Sudan

Health officials are concerned that the 100 reported cases of watery diarrhea at El Zalit village in El Salam locality in Sudan's White Nile State may be due to cholera. Samples have been sent to a laboratory to confirm the diagnosis.

All travellers to any area where cholera may be occurring can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
