Post election tensions and protests in Ecuador

There are currently demonstrations near the National Elections Council in Quito. Protests have also been reported in Guayaquil. Tensions are running high after Sunday’s presidential and parliamentary elections. Final results have not yet been announced.

Advice For Travellers

Because the presidential vote is too close to call at this time, Ecuador could face days of uncertainty and tension, and protests are likely to be ongoing. To minimize safety risk, avoid areas of protests and demonstrations. Even peaceful situations can quickly and unexpectedly escalate and become violent.
